Year 5&6

Year 5 Darts Club

As president of the Darts Club I would like to thank all of the Year 5s for their excellent sportsmanship and darts playing in their mini tournament.  It was a pleasure to watch.  Well done to all and congratulations to Jake for being the champion and Freya for being a gracious runner-up.  Also a special shout out to Jake for scoring the highest score with 3 darts - 100.  Iona also scored an impressive 83 with 3 darts. Mrs Bainbridge.

We had an amazing visit to Aglionby Wetlands.  The weather stayed dry, we found lots of interesting creatures including a one called The Killer of the Deep!

Welcome to Year 5 and 6. Our class teacher is Mrs Machin and our Senior Teaching Assistant is Mrs Bainbridge.

In art we designed our own Mayan masks - either a celebration or death mask.  We then made out and clay and carefully painted them.  Such vibrant and eye-catching masks.

Keith Haring art

We learned about the graffiti artist Keith Haring and have created these outstanding pieces of art inspired by his Graffiti walls.

Today we had a visit from the engineering team at Sellafield.

We got into groups and made scale models of Hadrian's Wall (the length of the wall is 117.5km).  We used measurements from our topic work to work out a scale for the height, width and length.  Turrets, milecastles and soldiers were also put on the wall.  Although the groups got off to a flying start, some of the walls didn't get finished, which goes to prove 'Hadrian's Wall wasn't built in a day!'.

Our graffiti name tags!

Our new topic for the 1st half of the spring term is Wall and Barricades.  We designed our own graffiti name tags, some more amazing art work from Year 5 and 6 smiley

We hope you loved our CD Christmas decorations.  We made them out of CDs, wool and added decorations.  We hope you had a merry christmas and a lovely new year.

We hope you loved our LED up Christmas cards we made for you.  It links our art and science topic.  We hope they were shining brightly in your homes!

We have been working together in groups to make Anglo-Saxon villages, using a variety of materials.  We thought about what a village would have in it, the layout and what the different buildings would look like.  A thoroughly enjoyable couple of weeks and all 5 villages look fantastic.

7th November

Four of us went to Caldew school today for the Primary Maths Challenge day.  We did some challenging maths and enjoyed it!

6th November

An enjoyable morning out at the football.  Well played everyone.

18th October

Great running this morning.

3rd October

A great morning of football with these girls - well done, everyone!

Anglo-Saxon Art

For our art lessons this first half term we have looked at Anglo-Saxon illuminated letters and brooches.  We designed our own illuminated letters for the initial of our first name.  We then designed and made Anglo-Saxon brooches using CDs, cardboard, string, paint and jewels.  Such a fantastic and colourful art display for our classroom.
