Sport Relief Week!
Last week we had a fantastic week in school raising money for Sport Relief. We began the week with a basketball competition to see how many hoops we could get. On Tuesday we held a penalty shoot out, with some of our school council members taking on the role of goalkeeper. A mixture of goals were saved and scored! During Wednesday lunchtime, we held a sprint race for each class on the field, followed by a skipping competition on Thursday. There were some extremely high scores! Unfortunately, the rounders match on Friday had to be postponed due to the weather, however this will be rescheduled this week. On Friday we also held a non-uniform day and each child came to school dressed in sports clothes.
Throughout the week we have taken part in a school challenge by walking the distance from Carlisle to London. Each class has walked/jogged/ran a certain number of miles every day and I am delighted to say that on Friday afternoon we completed the challenge! A HUGE Thank You to everyone for your sponsorship, a total amount we have made will be announced soon!
Strange objects in our school hall!!!
On Monday when we returned to school following the snow days we found some strange objects in our school hall. We explored these and discovered that they were from four different time eras. There were objects from the Dinosaur era, the Stoneage era, the Victorian era and World War 1 and 2 relating specifically to the truce football game. These objects are going to form the basis of a focus week in school this week. All classes will look closely at the objects and then they will learn all about one of the eras of time. Nursery&Reception will explore Dinosaurs, Year 1&2 will explore Stoneage, Year 3&4 will explore the Victorians and Year 5&6 will explore the World Wars. By the end of the week all children will produce a piece of writing based on a day in the life of............ This will then be put together to show the progression of skills in writing from Nursery through to Year 6. The aim of the week is to use these resources to inspire the children and for this to inspire writing and improve children's writing skills across the school.
Please see class pages for photographs of what each class has been doing over the week.
