At Burgh by Sands School some children have limited experiences beyond their local community so our curriculum aims to give all children the experiences of the wider and global communities they may otherwise never be exposed to. Our topics offer a range of opportunities to investigate these places through physical and human processes so they understand why the world looks the way it does. As the children progress through Key Stage 1 and 2 we spend time improving mapping skills and geographical vocabulary. We use a range of resources including atlases, globes and satellite images to enhance teaching. We also try to use our local environment as much as possible to ensure children are aware of their surroundings and the world around them.
