Nursery & Reception

We would like to welcome you to our Nursery and Reception class page. In 'Early Years' we seek to provide the foundations of learning in preparation for Key stages 1 & 2. Our curriculum is enhanced with topics of enquiry to support a progression of skills and opportunities to experience learning at a deeper level. Our children's needs and interests are fundamental to what we learn, therefore our curriculum is flexible and accessible to all. For more information on our curriculum and the progression of skills, please visit the curriculum page and scroll to the bottom to find Early Years.

Through our class page, we would like to share some of our learning with you.

Why do you love me so much?

Can you read me a story?

We have had a wonderful start to the year. We have learnt about ourselves and our roles within our class. We have made new friendships and explored new aspects of learning by working together. We are finding out what it means to be independent in our learning and how we can ask for help and support. We have visited the church in our village to celebrate Harvest. We have picked apples and made apple crumble. We also talked about Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita.

Why do leaves go crispy?

Why do squirrels hide their nuts?

We have had so much fun learning this half term. We have explored the topic questions above and enjoyed all the events running up to Christmas. We have explored the seasons through sensory activities and read many stories that have inspired our imagination. We have also learnt many facts that support our understanding of the world. We have looked at celebrations such as bonfire night and joined in activities and dressing up that support charities. We have enjoyed learning together and sharing everyone’s interests. We especially liked talking about the dead robin we found in outside. This was a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and share our opinions. A fabulous autumn term!

Why don’t snakes have legs?

Are eggs alive?

The second half of the spring term has inspired curiosity and wonder. We have looked at the seasons turn into spring and observed how this has happened. Throughout this time, we have explored how animals adapt to their habitats and focussed on specific animals such as tigers through literacy and topic time. We have looked at life cycles and all things that grow. To support our observations of this, we have looked after tadpoles and grown our own broad bean. We have used literacy and maths to deepen our understanding of these topics and the natural world. We have talked about animals that give birth to their young and those that lays eggs, which has led us into celebrations around Easter. In RE, the children have found out why Easter takes place and have connected the story of Christmas to the Easter story.
